One of America’s favorite airlines, Southwest Airlines, has announced they are now flying to the Hawaiian Island chain!

The first route launching today, is from Oakland, California to Honolulu, Hawaii. This is just the beginning of what is expected to be a successful launch, expected to give Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines a run for there money crossing the Pacific!

The main reason so many are excited about the Southwest Airlines news is because the airline known for its affordable fares will make the Hawaiian islands that much more accessible without breaking the bank!

Just how affordable you ask? How about the airline’s introductory rates of drum roll…. one-way tickets from San Jose and Oakland in California to Honolulu as low as $49. The local inter-island monopoly over inter-island travel is currently held by Mokulele and Hawaiian Airlines.

The question now is will the local airline industry do to Southwest Airlines what it did to the high speed ferry industry when it came to town threatening the monopoly!?
