National Park Service superintendent Jeffrey Reinbold said that the famous cherry blossoms are due to bloom between the 3rd and 6th of April. In the past, peak season has fallen between the 3rd and 4th of April, which means that the blossoms are due right on time this year.
The National Park Service announced that they’d noticed buds already appearing on branches. As long as the weather remains mild, the blooms should last about ten days.
This news was announced at the National Cherry Blossom Festival news conference, which is a site to behold itself. With attendees sporting pink outfits and drinking pink cocktails, it was quite a magical affair.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is held every year between the 20th March and the 14th of April. As well as the main attraction, attendees can also enjoy musical acts, street fairs, and even fireworks. Meghan Trainor is even performing, and there is an annual parade, this year falling on the 13th of April.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival is attended by over 1.5 million people every year and is the largest Japanese-U.S. celebration, commemorating the gift of 3000 cherry blossom trees from Tokyo, Japan to the U.S. in 1912.
If you can try to make it out to the National Cherry Blossom Festival this year, and don’t forget to dress in pink!
